Presentation of the project on the conference Beyond Imagined Uniqueness, 21 May 2008 In days 19-21 of May 2008 Zuzanna Bogumil participated in the international conference Beyond Imagined Uniqueness: Nationalisms in Comparative Perspective organized by American Studies Center, University of Warsaw. In the presentation entitled The story of a city or the story of a nation? On the exhibitions of historical museums in Dresden, Warsaw and St. Petersburg, Zuzanna Bogumil concentrated on selected aspects of our research and presented the general conclusions of the project. Given that city museums can present both the city and the national history, she compared how much of which there appears in the analyzed exhibitions. Then, referring to the categories of temple and forum introduced by Cameron Duncan, she examined whether the analyzed museums are "temples" which impose singular interpretations, or "forums" which give room for diverse narrations. |
