Jacek Zakowski (born in 1957 in Warsaw) is Polish editor, writer and lecturer.
He studied journalism at the University of Warsaw. Currently the Dean of the Department of Journalism at Collegium Civitas (Warsaw).
He started his professional career as a journalist in the weekly "Na Przelaj" (1980-1981). In 1981-1983 he worked in the Press-Office of NSZZ Solidarnooa.
After 1983 he published in the weekly "Tygodnik Polski" and the monthly "Powociagliwosc i Praca". In 1989 he was the spokesman of Obywatelski Klub
Parlamentarny (Citizens' Parlamentary Club), one of the founder members of the biggest opinion-making Polish newspaper "Gazeta Wyborcza" and the first
president of Polska Agencja Informacyjna. He co-operates with TVP1, TOK-FM radio station and the weekly "Polityka".
He received many prestigeous awards for his work: SDP (given by the democratic opposition, 1987), the Adolf Bochenski prize (1986), the Ksawery
Pruszynski prize given by Polish PEN Club (1988), Journalist of the Year (1997) and two Victor prizes (1997).
